About Me
Hi, I’m Jackie.
I’m a breaking news reporter at Scientific American.
Previously, I was a science reporter at Mother Jones magazine, and got my start in journalism as an intern at the San Francisco Chronicle. I particularly enjoy writing about odd or overlooked plants, animals, and microbes.
I’ve always lived near the coast—first in Florida, then California, and now New York—which probably explains my interest in the natural world.
I have a master’s degree in environmental communication and a bachelor’s degree in earth sciences from Stanford University.
In 2024, I received a National Academies Eric and Wendy Schmidt Award for Excellence in Science Communication.
I live in New York City with two cats, Moe and Archie.
